Matt van den Bergh and his mate from Stellenbosch created an amazing fine dining restaurant in Stellenbosch – MERTIA. I had dinner there last week, and the experience was a 360-degree sensurround one, as they say in the classics.
I have known Chef Matt since he was 6 years old, climbing trees and doing silly things in our back garden with my son John. Now grown up and having followed his passion to be a chef, he has become the Director of Feasts at MERTIA after completing his university studies in something unrelated.
You can read the story of him and his friend Marais Kirsten-Uys on MERTIA’s website. The restaurant was named after his grandmother, who obviously inspired Marais to rise to the top in 3-star Michelin restaurants in the USA and helping to establish Klein JAN for the Oppenheimers in the Kalahari, between Nothing and Nowhere.
Feast your eyes and your senses and experience the rapt attention of the Mertia Ambassadors as they spill their goodwill over you. Truly a manifestation of TOO Much is Never Enough
